Tattoos unfortunately restrict your future plans regarding jobs, work and some countries around the world have laws in place preventing minors from getting tattooed regardless of parental consent. This means that even with your parents’ permission you cannot get a tattoo, however in South Africa there is no law in place as yet regarding age limit.
Due to the fact that there is no law in South Africa, artist (well at least most of them in reputable studios) have the integrity to take it upon themselves to enforce their own law that no minor under the age of 18 will be tattooed regardless of parental consent.
Artist are really strict with this ruling due to the fact that people under the age of 18 are still minors, they haven’t completely realized who they are as an individual as of yet, and don’t always make the best decisions and often make decisions due to peer pressure and short lived trends.
However, with both parents’ consent and legitimate forethought, there are circumstances in which an artist may decide to tattoo, but this is up to each individual artist and each individual situation.er, even though we may think or wish it didn’t.
We believe that if a minor is really wanting a tattoo that badly they can wait until they are 18. If they still want the same tattoo by that time they can do it on their own then it may truly have good meaning to them and an artist will be happy to assist them.
